Enhancing employability of accounting graduates in Uganda and Nigeria by Integrating Employability Skills into Accounting Education using Work-Integrated Learning Approach (DESIRED).

DIGITALISATION OF ACCOUNTING TEACHING, LEARNING AND PRACTICE IN ACCORDANCE GLOBAL BEST PRACTICES.

The DESIRED Project through the Department of Accounting at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in conjunction with the and Association of Chartered Certified System Accountants (ACCSA) Global conducted a two-day skilling and networking program themed “DIGITALISATION OF ACCOUNTING TEACHING, LEARNING AND PRACTICE IN ACCORDANCE GLOBAL BEST PRACTICES”.

The two-day event took place on Tuesday 9th to Wednesday 10th June 2026. The areas of focus included Digital accounting tools and emerging technologies,  Data Analytics and Intelligent Financial Reporting , Cloud accounting and Automation,  Digital skills for accountants for the global economy  Future of accounting profession in the AI error, Research, innovation and global opportunities for academics and students, Bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry expectations, International expectations , international certifications, membership and capacity development opportunities.

There were different participants who included the accounting students, academic staff, accounting professionals, Researchers and scholars, finance and audit practitioners, Digital transformation enthusiasts.  The special features of this skilling and networking program were interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, Global insights and opportunities, networking and collaboration opportunities and exposure to international best practices.

Such activities are part of the ongoing efforts by the DESIRED Project to enhance the skills and employability of accounting students. Peer learning sessions are a great opportunity of knowledge exchange and networking. Not only do students identify potential mentors, they also get to identify potential career path for their future.
