The DESIRED Project is implemented through seven interconnected Work Packages (WPs), each focusing on specific actions—from consortium management to capacity building, industry engagement, and dissemination. Together, they align accounting education with labour market needs in Uganda and Nigeria..

Work Packages

Work Package 1 (WP1): Project Management & Coordination
Activity 1.1: Project Kick-off Meetings

 Conducting initial consortium meetings to identify staff, form project core teams (Supervisory, Work Package Leaders, Financial Management), and plan the project implementation strategy. All partners participate, providing in-kind resources such as meeting venues and office space.

Activity 1.2: Project Team Leaders and Project Staff Orientation

Orientation sessions for project team leaders and staff to strengthen capacity and ensure a shared understanding of project objectives, procedures, and deliverables.

Activity 1.3: Stakeholder Engagements and Co-production Meetings

Setting parameters for the Project Advisory Group (PAG) to ensure effective quality monitoring, planning, and coordination across the consortium.

Activity 1.4: Consulting Key Accounting Education Stakeholders

Engaging national and institutional stakeholders (e.g., ministries, professional accounting bodies) to localize project objectives and align the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) framework to local contexts.

Activity 1.5: Procurement of Project Office Equipment and Supplies

Acquisition of essential equipment and materials to facilitate project administration and communication across partner institutions.

Activity 1.6: Project Financial Management, Budgetary Monitoring, Risk & Compliance Management

Managing financial disbursement, reporting, and ensuring compliance with EU grant regulations. Activities also include continuous monitoring of project risks and mitigation strategies.

Activity 1.7: Drafting the Project Partnership Agreement

Preparing and signing a consortium agreement outlining roles, obligations, and responsibilities of all project partners.

Activity 1.7: Review and Finalization of the Project Quality Assurance (QA) Plan

Developing and approving a comprehensive QA plan outlining performance indicators, reporting structures, and protocols for quality control and evaluation across all work packages.

Deliverable 1.1: Progress Report

A detailed report summarizing project performance in the first year, including implementation status and recommendations.

Deliverable 1.2: Project Quality Assurance Plan

A detailed QA document outlining the project’s quality management strategy, protocols, and performance indicators.

Activity 2.1: Review of Existing Accounting Curricula and WIL Practices

Mapping existing accounting curricula in Uganda and Nigeria to identify integration gaps in employability and WIL pedagogy.

Activity 2.2: Develop the WIL Quality Control Tools

Designing instruments, rubrics, and assessment templates to ensure consistency and quality in student WIL activities.

Activity 2.3: Co-production Meetings with National Higher Education Bodies

Engaging National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) – Uganda, and NUC – Nigeria, to align WIL framework standards.

Activity 2.4: Drafting of WIL Framework Document

Preparing the first draft of the Quality Control Framework incorporating feedback from all partners.

Activity 2.5: Validation of the WIL Framework

Conducting validation workshops with HEIs, employers, and accounting professional bodies.

Activity 2.6: Finalization of WIL Framework and Dissemination

Incorporating feedback from validation to produce the final WIL Quality Control Framework for use in accounting education.

Activity 2.7: Policy Dialogue on WIL Integration

Preparing the first draft of the Quality Control Framework incorporating feedback from all partners.

Activity 2.8: Monitoring and Review

Continuous evaluation of the implementation progress of the WIL framework across the HEIs.

Comprehensive WIL framework document applicable across consortium HEIs.

Deliverable 2.2: Collaboration MoUs between Uganda & Nigeria HEIs

Activity 3.1: Develop WIL Implementation Guide

Prepare practical procedures for coordinating internships, field projects, and mentorship programs.

Activity 3.2: Identify and Profile Employer Partners

Build a database of accounting firms, government agencies, and industries to host students.

Activity 3.3: Student Recruitment and Placement

Select students for placements using transparent and inclusive criteria.

Activity 3.4: Conduct Orientation and Pre-placement Training

Train students on workplace ethics, communication, and employability skills.

Activity 3.5: Supervise and Monitor Students during WIL

Track student performance using checklists and feedback forms.

Activity 3.6: Employer Feedback and Evaluation

Collect evaluations from supervisors to assess student engagement and learning.

Facilitate cross-cultural study visits, job shadowing, and knowledge-sharing between African and EU institutions.

Activity 6.5: Technical Assistance by EU Partners

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to African HEIs on implementing WIL pedagogy and student assessment tools.

Activity 7.4: Develop a Digital Platform for Resource Sharing

Build an online repository for reports, curricula, and WIL tools accessible to all partners.

Activity 7.5: Publish Academic and Policy Papers

Encourage joint publications on WIL integration, employability, and accounting education reform.

Activity 7.6: Organize Dissemination Workshops

Conduct public events to share project findings with stakeholders and policymakers.

Assess reach, stakeholder engagement, and awareness created by project activities.
